SIGHTSEEING ( PIRAEUS ):
Piraeus, the Port of Athens, is occupying a Peninsula 10 kilometers southwest of
Central Athens. On the north side of Piraeus is the Main Harbor - one of the largest in the
Mediterranean - serving cargo and passenger ships from around the world, while the south side
with two smaller harbors serves as the entertainment district.
The Zea Harbor is occupied by a Yacht Marina and has many Restaurants and Cafes as well
as two Beaches a short walk away. Adjacent to Zea lies the Fishing Port Mikrolimano, which is
the smallest and most picturesque of Piraeus’ three Harbors. It is dotted with traditional
seafood eateries and stylish Restaurants. A number of Nightclubs and Bars can be found in the
streets of the Kastella Hill near the Port. A great number of Fish Taverns can also be found
along Akti Themistokleous Street on the southwest side of Piraeus Peninsula.
There are two Museums in Piraeus. The Nautical Museum at the Zea Harbor and the
Archeological Museum. Other points of interest are the Agia Triada Cathedral on
Dimokratias Street and the Municipal Theatre on Korai Square built in 1885.
Lambraki and Dimokratias Streets are the Main Shopping Areas of Piraeus. Great bargains
can be found in the Shops near the Harbor and at the Flea Market, held each Sunday near the
Metro Station.
Piraeus, the port of Athens, is the hub of the Greek ferry network. Frequent ship departures
take travelers to the Greek Islands. All Ferries depart from the Main Harbor. The
Hydrofoil services to the Attica Islands depart from the Zea Harbor with the exception of the
Aegean service, which leaves from the Main Harbor.
Piraeus can be easily reached from Athens, by Metro Line 1 which connects Omonia Square
in Central Athens with the passenger ship section of the Harbor.
Location:
The Lilia Hotel is situated at one of the most beautiful Greek Harbors, the
picturesque Bay of Pasalimani, only 5 minutes away from the Piraeus Harbor. It is a
comfortable, peaceful, clean Hotel with a friendly atmosphere.
