History:
The origins of the palazzo that hosts the Hotel Scandinavia go back
deep in time. The building dates from the year 1000 and it is said that this is
the very place where Desdemona met Othello, the Moor of Venice. The palazzo was
renovated in the 16th century by the Trevisan family, a wealthy merchant
dynasty, that lived in it for generations. In the Fifties, the Tinacci family
transformed the palazzo into the Hotel Scandinavia, managing to preserve the
atmosphere of an ancient Venetian residence handed down through the centuries.
The is one of the Venetian Hotels that most reflects the spirit of an
aristocratic Venetian residence.
The Hotel windows provide a stupendous view: to the building's left is the
Church of Santa Maria Formosa, whose name is linked to an ancient legend. It is
said that this Campo was the site of the apparition of a rather
prosperous-looking Madonna and, to celebrate this miracle, a church was built in
1492 that was given the name of Santa Maria Formosa-the Buxom.
