This Traditional Complex consists of 45 Units (Studios & Apartments).
There are 11 Traditional Houses, 13 Apartments and 7 Studios. The bedrooms have one double
or two single beds. The bathrooms have showers and the kitchens are fully equipped.
All the accommodations have Telephones which can be used for internal and external
communication.
STUDIOS:
The Olympic Villas Studios belong to the new building complex. They have view of the
Cycladitic islands Ios, Sikinos, Folegandros etc. They are fully equipped, like the Apartments
and the Traditional Houses.
Studios can accommodate 2 - 3 persons. They are ideal for people that want to have the quality
services and facilities of the Villas at the minimum cost. Of course you can always walk to the
side of the Caldera and enjoy the view of the Volcano and the other islands.
Moreover, if you are planning to stay longer than a week you can ask if an Apartment or
Traditional House in the side of the Caldera is available, with a small daily charge. This way
you can combine both economy and view to Caldera.
APARTMENTS:
The
Olympic Villas Apartments
along with the Studios and the Reception area compose the
new building. They are approximately 10 years old and they are redecorated almost every year.
The Olympic Villas Complex has 10 Apartments with one bedroom and 3 Apartments with two
bedrooms. All of them have bathroom and kitchen. Some Apartments also have view of Ios,
Sikinos, Folegandros islands but most of them have view of the magnificent Caldera.
The architecture in this new building is typical of Cyclades. The Apartments are ideal for
families groups of 2 to 5 persons. They combine the advantages of a modern building with the
unique view to the Aegean Islands.
TRADITIONAL HOUSES:
Olympic Villas Traditional Houses. Here is a piece of information about the history
of this house, which we consider very useful for you to know in order to understand its use and
architecture.
These Houses are approximately 150 years old. For the people at that time it was much easier to
excavate the mountain than carry or buy the building materials (taking under consideration that
the main means of transportation was the donkey). The location of "Caldera" was
selected, because it was the cheapest part of the island since it could not be cultivated.
Moreover, the cave houses keep a fairly stable temperature throughout the year. The Traditional
Houses are hot during winter and cool during summer time.
The size was fitted to the needs of the resident family and limited by the natural obstacles
such as big rocks. When the children were about to start their own family they would either
build an additional room or if they had the space, they would build a new cave house next to
the old one. This is the way the entire village was constructed. Today the Caldera area is
protected by very strict building regulations in order to keep the traditional look and
architecture.
Traditional Houses can accommodate 2 to 4 persons. 9 of the Houses have one bedroom and 2 of
the houses have two bedrooms. All the Traditional Houses have bathroom, kitchen, private
terrace and view to Caldera. They are ideal for just married couples and people who want to
experience new things in their vacations.
Due to their location they are inconvenient for very old or handicap people.
