Restaurant
The Kalypso tavern opened in 1977 when the two neighbouring villages of Malia and Stalis were nothing more than small farming and fishing communities. Then, it was the only tavern in the region, but it is still renowned locally as being amongst the best for miles in all directions for the quality of its food and for its genuine Cretan atmosphere. In Greece, taverns generally fall into two categories: those that serve meat dishes and those serve fish dishes. The Kalypso tavern was and still is a tavern serving primarily fish, but we have now expanded our menu to include meat and vegetarian dishes as well so as to be able to cater for all of the tastes and preferences of our guests. The Cretan diet is world famous for its health benefits and we specialise in making maximum use of local ingredients in all of the dishes we prepare. Since Crete is a richly agricultural island with a climate that is similar to many tropical regions, there is always an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, not only of the common northern European varieties but also of kinds more generally associated with equatorial regions. We also naturally realise and appreciate that many people and, especially children, prefer to eat food or meals that they are accustomed to, and we are therefore always willing to prepare whatever our guests may want, provided that they give us a little notice so that we may obtain any constituent that we may not have.Hotel guests pay specially discounted prices at our restaurant, so please be sure to remind the waiter that you are staying with us whenever you eat in our tavern.
