lonissos is a beautiful island in the Sporades group in the Aegean Sea. Set in a marine conservation area, the island is the perfect holiday destination for anyone wishing to leave behind the noise, traffic and hubbub of home for a while. Offering stunning views, quiet beaches, sparkling seas, olive groves and pine forests, visitors cannot fail to be entranced by the place.
Patitiri is the main, harbour town; here there are supermarkets, greengrocers, butchers etc., as well as craft shops and many tavernas. Spend some time wandering around the Museum, or lazing on the town beach - then catch the bus up to the Old Village, spread-eagled on the top of a hill, and wander through cobbled (traffic free) lanes, and perhaps have a bite to eat or a drink at one of the tavernas perched on the cliff edge looking over to the neighbouring islands. You may be lucky enough to see the mule on its daily round collecting the rubbish or delivering stock to the shops. Take a taxi to one of the many picturesque beaches, where swimming is safe, and sunbathing is interrupted only by a visit to the beach taverna for an ice cold drink and a plate of meze.
Alonissos nightlife is not riotous, although there are a couple of low-key nightclubs and bars; but for anyone wanting a completely relaxing break in a completely beautiful place this is the island to visit!
