The Prefecture of Arkadia is located in the central part of the
Peloponnese with capital city of Tripoli. It covers an area of 4,419 km2
and is bordered by the sea to the east. The land is entirely mountainous with
the highest peak of Mount Mainalo 1,980 m, in the centre of the Prefecture. Many
of the Peloponnese rivers have their sources in its mountains. To the north, the
waters of the Ladonas River form an artificial lake for the production of
electricity.
The eastern coast is washed by the Gulf of Argos and the Mirtoo Sea, where
the sea has carved fantastic bays and peninsula.
The climate is cool in the summer and very cold in the winter except for the
coastal areas, where it is mild.
