Pieria is located in central Macedonia and bordering Imathias to the
north, Larissa to the south, Kozani to the west and the Thermaiko Gulf to the
east. Most of the county is flat and covered in maple, elm, fir, pine and beech
trees.
The main attractions of Pieria are the spectacular beaches along the
coastline and Mount Olympus, the home of the gods in mythology. Archaeological
excavations have shown that Mount Olympus has been inhabited from as early as
the Bronze Age. The Macedonian Temple of Zeus, Dion, is located at the foot of
Mount Olympus.
