Charming Nights
Quinta do Monte, a wonderful eden, with its beauty, magic and charisma,
has become the perfect scenery for the musical show "Charming Nights". Weekly
shows based on the music that was popular in Victorian and Edwardian England,
and during the first half of the twentieth century along with scenes from
Madeira lifestyle of that time. These classical shows will be semi-staged and
costumed, performed by a small group of singers and dancers, with piano
accompaniment. A selection of light opera, operetta, musical comedy, songs and
ballads will be included in the programme, with Viennese music and other
memorable waltzes. The content of the programme will vary slightly over a number
of weeks, but it will include the music of such well-know composers as: Johann
Strauss, Franz Lehár, Jacques Offenbach, Carl Zeller, Emmerich Kalman, Michael
William Balfe, W.S. Gilbert & Sir Arthur Sullivan, Sigmund Romberg, Noel Coward
e Ivor Novello.
