Phetchaburi is an old city and used to be an important fort town of Thailand long ago.

It was formerly called Muang Phribphli. Phetchaburi occupies an area of 6, 225.1 square kilometers. Phetchaburi is a very old town.characterised by thick jungles and mountain ranges lying in the west as a border between Thailand and Myanmar and 80 km. long coastline towards the Gulf of Thailand in the east.

An important royal fort during the Ayutthaya period, now serves as a major stop for sightseeing before continuing down south by road or rail to other beach towns in Southern Thailand. The province is worth visiting for its splendid historical park and ancient temples, wonderful beaches and caves, as well as a great variety of local food.

Phetchaburi is a central region province, situated on the west shore of the Gulf of Thailand having an overall area of 6,225.138 square kilometers. Its geographical characteristics are mountainous thick jungles throughout the border in the west where Tanaosi Range is the border line between Thailand and the Socialist Republic of the Union of Myanmar. There is a plain all along the seashore in the east of Changwat Samut Songkhram and Amphoe Pak Tho of Changwat Ratchaburi to the north Amphoe Hua Hin of Changwat Prachuap Khirikhan to the South and the sea-shore of the west side of the Gulf to Thailand to the east. The total length of the Phetchaburi seashore from the northern-most spot to southern-most spot is approximately 80 kilometers while the total length of the border line in Phetchaburi dividing Thailand and Myanmar is approximately 120 Kilometers.

As archaeological evidence suggests, Phetchaburi province has an ancient history with evidence that the area has been inhabited since the Dvaravati Period. Many of these items have found their way into the area’s museums which also display valuable works of art. One destination of particular interest to visitors is Cha-am, a resort town that began life as a royal resort and features an excellent beach. Given its close location to Bangkok, Cha-am is a favourite with weekend day-trippers from the capital. The province also houses Thailand’s largest national park - Kaeng Krachan National Park.

Phetchaburi has a real variety of tourist spots. Temples and palaces are the center of superb architectural and artistic work emulated by younger generations. The local way of life is still seen at the marketplace and the fishery communities by the mouth of the gulf of Thailand and in all rural area. All coastal beaches are good at reasonable price. A wildlife walk trail along a natural route in the mangrove forest in an attractive option.

The average temperature of Phetchaburi ranges from 16-38 degrees Celsius. There are most rains from July to October.
