The Thurgau Canton of Switzerland is bordered in the north by
Lake Constance and is a cultivated, fertile region. There are several industrial
towns, Frauenfeld, the capital of the canton and Arbon. The Cantons of Zurich
and Schaffhausen lie to the west, while the Canton of St Gallen lies to the
south.
Thurgau was acquired by the Hapsburgs in 1264 and conquered by the Swiss
cantons in 1460; it was ruled by the cantons until 1798, when Switzerland was
invaded by the French. It became a canton of Switzerland in 1803.
