Emilia - Romagna is a region of Northern Italy directed to the Adriatic coast, where lie some
thirty famous and busy seaside resorts with large sandy beaches, shallow waters
stretching for a distance from the shore, a welcoming and vast hinterland and a
network of efficient family-run small and medium-sized hotels. The principal city is Bologna, an
historical, cultural and entertainment centre of national importance.
Other important cities include Parma, Piacenza,
Reggio Emilia, Modena, Rimini, Ferrara, Forl and Ravenna. In addition all
the centres have discotheques, nightclubs, typical bars and restaurants and
places of entertainment. For those who are not interested in nightlife the
region offers numerous historical places, which almost make visitor to believe
time was standing still here for centuries.
The region offers as well famous
thermal spas with sulphurous, sodio-bromine-iodic and sodio-iodic springs, known
for their curative abilities. Capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, Bologna,
after foundation of the famous university, which is one of the oldest in the
world, became cultural capital of Europe, presenting its rich history in
monuments and works of art.
Emilia Romagna takes its name from "Via Emilia", the old Roman road
linking Rimini to Piacenza, going from the Adriatic Sea to the wide plains of
the north, running through marine villages, lagoon landscapes, old medieval
towns and offering beautiful views of castles, hills, towers, abbeys.
Nevertheless, Emilia Romagna doesn't only mean history and nature, but also
entertainment. One hundred kilometres of seaside full of hotels, restaurants,
discos, aquatic parks, cinemas, theatres and any kind of amusement one can
imagine: an unbelievable, immense, perfect entertainment industry.
Agriculture is the most important
economical activity: grain, potato, maize, tomato
and onion are the most important, along
with fruit and grape for the production of wine (of which the most
famous is perhaps Lambrusco). Cattle breeding is also highly developed,
especially for pig and bovine breeding.
